The martyrs of the day of the trench

Translation

✧ [The martyrs of the day of the trench] Ibn Isḥāq said: Only six men of the Muslims were martyred on the day of the trench. [From the Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal] From the Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal: Saʿd b. Muʿādh, Anas b. Aws b. ʿAtīk b. ʿAmr, and ʿAbdallāh b. Sahl — three men. [From the Banū Jusham] From the Banū Jusham b. al-Khazraj, then from the Banū Salimah: al-Ṭufayl b. al-Nuʿmān and Thaʿlabah b. Ghanmah — two men. [From the Banū al-Najjār] From the Banū al-Najjār, then from the Banū Dīnār: Kaʿb b. Zayd — an unknown arrow struck him and killed him. [Ibn Hishām's explanation of some of the obscure terms] Ibn Hishām said: "sahm gharb" (an unknown arrow) and "sahmun gharb" (with and without annexation) is the arrow whose origin is unknown — neither from where it came nor who shot it.
