What was revealed of the Qurʾān concerning the detachment of al-Rajīʿ
Translation
✧ [Poetry of Ḥassān in mourning Khubayb and his companions] Ibn Isḥāq said: Ḥassān b. Thābit said, mourning Khubayb and his companions: May God bless those who followed one another on the day of al-Rajīʿ, and were honored and rewarded. The head of the detachment was Marthad and their commander, and Ibn al-Bukayr was their leader, and Khubayb, and a son of Ṭāriq, and Ibn Dathna among them—there his appointed death came to him. And al-ʿĀṣim, slain at their Rajīʿ—he earned high honors; indeed he was a great earner. He prevented the leading reins from reaching his back until he fought fiercely; indeed he was noble. Ibn Hishām said: It is also recited: until he was brought down; indeed he was noble. Ibn Hishām said: Most of the scholars of poetry deny that these verses are by Ḥassān.
