✧ The admonition to prevent reliance on the writings of a person without preserving them

أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ زِرٍّ قَالَ
أَتَيْتُ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ عَسَّالٍ الْمُرَادِيَّ قَالَ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ؟ قَالَ جِئْتُ أَنْبِطُ الْعِلْمَ قَالَ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنْ خَارِجٍ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ يَطْلُبُ الْعِلْمَ إِلَّا وَضَعَتْ لَهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا رِضًا بِمَا يَصْنَعُ»

✧ I came to Safwan b. 'Assal al-Muradi. He said: What brings you? I said: I came to extract knowledge. He said: Indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There is no one who goes out of his house seeking knowledge but the angels lower their wings for him, pleased with what he is doing."
