أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ وَخَالِدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ النَّضْرِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْحُضَيْنِ بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ عَنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ بْنِ قُنْفُذِ بْنِ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ
أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ اعْتَذَرَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ إِلَّا عَلَى طُهْرٍ أَوْ قَالَ عَلَى طَهَارَةٍ»

✧ He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was performing ablution and greeted him, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not return the greeting until he had finished ablution. Then he apologized to him and said, 'I disliked mentioning Allah except in a state of purity' - or he said, 'upon purification.'
