أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ بِبَيْرُوتَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ الدَّارِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ يَعْمَرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَخِي أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَّامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَامِرُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ الْبِكَالِيُّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُتْبَةَ بْنَ عَبْدٍ السُّلَمِيَّ يَقُولُ

قَامَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا فَاكِهَةُ الْجَنَّةِ؟ قَالَ «فِيهَا شَجَرَةٌ تُدْعَى طُوبَى» فَقَالَ أَيُّ شَجَرِنَا تُشْبِهُ قَالَ «لَيْسَ تُشْبِهُ شَجَرًا مِنْ شَجَرِ أَرْضِكَ وَلَكِنْ أَتَيْتَ الشَّامَ؟ » قَالَ لَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ «وَإِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ بِالشَّامِ تُدْعَى الْجُمَيْزَةَ تَشْتَدُّ عَلَى سَاقٍ ثُمَّ يُنْشَرُ أَعْلَاهَا» قَالَ مَا عِظَمُ أَصْلِهَا؟ قَالَ «لَوِ ارْتَحَلْتَ جَذَعَةً مِنْ إِبِلِ أَهْلِكَ مَا أَحَطْتَ بِأَصْلِهَا حَتَّى تَنْكَسِرَ تُرْقُوَتَاهَا هَرَمًا»

✧ A bedouin stood up to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: What is the fruit of Paradise? He said: "In it is a tree called Tuba." He said: Which of our trees does it resemble? He said: "It does not resemble any tree of your land, but have you gone to Syria?" He said: No, O Messenger of Allah. He said: "It is a tree in Syria called the sycamore fig; it grows thick on a trunk, then its top is spread out." He said: What is the size of its root? He said: "If you were to travel on a young camel of your family's camels, you would not encircle its root until its collarbones break from old age."
