✧ I heard Hishām b. Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām reciting Sūrat al-Furqān differently from how I recite it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had taught it to me. I almost rushed at him, but then I gave him time until he finished. Then I grabbed him by his cloak and brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “I heard this one reciting Sūrat al-Furqān differently from how you taught it to me.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “Recite.” He recited the recitation I had heard. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Thus it was revealed.” Then he said to me, “Recite.” I recited, and he said, “Thus it was revealed. This Qur’an was revealed on seven ahruf, so recite whatever of it is easy.”
