✧ A man recited a verse, and I recited it differently from his recitation. I said, “Who taught you this?” He said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught it to me.” I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, did you teach me such-and-such a verse?” He said, “Yes.” The man said, “Did you teach me such-and-such?” He said, “Yes. Gabriel and Michael came to me. Gabriel ﷺ sat on my right and Michael ﷺ on my left. Gabriel said, ‘O Muhammad, recite the Qur’an on one harf.’ Michael said, ‘Ask him for more.’ So I said, ‘Increase me.’ He said, ‘Recite it on two harf.’ Michael said, ‘Ask him for more,’ until he reached seven ahruf, and he said, ‘Recite it on seven ahruf, each one sufficient and healing.’”
