✧ I went on the campaign to Tabuk with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When he returned, we traveled one night, and I rode close to him. Drowsiness overcame me, and I kept waking up, but my mount had drawn near his mount, and its closeness frightened me, fearing I might strike his foot in the stirrup. So I kept pulling back my mount until my eyes overcame me in part of the night, and my mount jostled his mount while his foot was in the stirrup, and I struck his foot. I did not wake except at his saying 'Hass'. I raised my head and said: Seek forgiveness for me, O Messenger of Allah. He said: 'Proceed.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began asking me about those who stayed behind from Banu Ghifar, and I informed him. Then he said: 'What did the group of reddish men with sparse hair do?' I told him about their staying behind. He said: 'What did the group of black men with curly hair—or short hair—who have camels at Shabakat Sharkh do?' I tried to recall them among Banu Ghifar but could not remember them until I recalled a group from Aslam. I said: O Messenger of Allah, those are a group from Aslam and they stayed behind. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'What prevents those, when one of them stays behind, from carrying an energetic man on some of his camels in the path of Allah? The dearest of my people to me is that the Muhajirun and the Ansar, Aslam, and Ghifar should not stay behind from me.'
