أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ
أَنَّ أَبَاهُ هَلَكَ وَتَرَكَ تِسْعَ بَنَاتٍ أَوْ سَبْعَ بَنَاتٍ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي «تَزَوَّجْتَ يَا جَابِرُ؟ » قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ « بِكْرًا أَوْ ثَيِّبًا؟ » قُلْتُ بَلْ ثَيِّبًا قَالَ «فَهَلَّا جَارِيَةً تُلَاعِبُهَا وَتُلَاعِبُكَ وَتُضَاحِكُهَا وَتُضَاحِكُكَ» فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ مَاتَ وَتَرَكَ تِسْعَ بَنَاتٍ أَوْ سَبْعَ بَنَاتٍ وَإِنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَجِيئَهُنَّ بِمِثْلِهِنَّ وَأَرَدْتُ امْرَأَةً تَقُومُ عَلَيْهِنَّ فَقَالَ لِي «بَارِكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ»

✧ His father died leaving nine daughters or seven daughters. He said: So I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said to me: “Did you marry, O Jabir?” I said: “Yes.” He said: “A virgin or a previously married woman?” I said: “Rather a previously married woman.” He said: “Why not a young girl so you could play with her and she play with you, and you make her laugh and she make you laugh?” I said: “Abdullah died leaving nine daughters or seven daughters, and I disliked bringing them one like them, so I wanted a woman who would take care of them.” He said to me: “May Allah bless you.”
