قَالَ عَمِّي أَنَسُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ سُمِّيتُ بِهِ وَلَمْ يَشْهَدْ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَكَبُرَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «أَوَّلُ مَشْهَدٍ شَهِدَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ غَيَّبَتُ عَنْهُ أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَئِنْ أَرَانِي مَشْهَدًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَا بَعْدُ لَيَرَيَنَّ اللَّهُ مَا أَصْنَعُ قَالَ فَهَابَ أَنْ يَقُولَ غَيْرَهَا فَشَهِدَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ مِنَ الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا عَمْرٍو أَيْنَ؟ قَالَ وَاهًا لِرِيحِ الْجَنَّةِ أَجِدُهَا دُونَ أُحُدٍ فَقَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتلَ فَوُجِدَ فِي جَسَدِهِ بِضْعٌ وَثَمَانُونَ بَيْنَ ضَرْبَةٍ وَطَعْنَةٍ وَرَمْيَةٍ فَقَالَتْ عَمَّتِي أُخْتُهُ فَمَا عَرَفْتُ أَخِي إِلَّا بِبَنَانِهِ قَالَ وَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِ فَمِنْهُمْ مِنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَنْتَظِرُ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلًا}

✧ My paternal uncle Anas b. al-Nadr, after whom I was named, was not present at Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and this weighed heavily on him. He said, “The first battle the Messenger of Allah ﷺ witnessed, I was absent from it. By Allah, if Allah shows me a battle alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the future, Allah will see what I do.” He was afraid to say anything more. He was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Uhud the following year. Sa‘d b. Mu‘adh met him and said, “O Abu ‘Amr, where to?” He said, “Ah, the scent of Paradise! I find it before Uhud.” He fought until he was killed. More than eighty wounds were found on his body from sword strikes, spear thrusts, and arrow shots. My paternal aunt, his sister, said, “I recognized my brother only by his fingertips.” And this verse was revealed: “Among the believers are men who have been true to what they pledged to Allah. Among them are those who have fulfilled their vow, and among them are those who wait. They have not changed in the least.”
