✧ I went out with ʿUbayd Allah b. ʿAdi b. Nawfal b. ʿAbd Manaf during the time of Muʿawiyah, and we entered enemy territory with the people. When we returned, we came to Homs. Wahshi, the freedman of Jubayr b. Mutʿim, had settled and resided there. When we arrived, ʿUbayd Allah b. ʿAdi said to me: “Would you like us to go to Wahshi and ask him about Hamzah, how he killed him?” He said: We went out until we came to him. He was in the courtyard of his house on a rug, an old man. When we reached him, we greeted him. He raised his head toward ʿUbayd Allah b. ʿAdi and said: “A son of ʿAdi b. al-Khiyar?” He said: “Yes.” He said: “By Allah, I have not seen you since I handed you to your mother al-Saʿdiyyah, who nursed you, at Dhu Tuwa. I handed you to her while she was on her camel. She took you, and your feet gleamed when she lifted you up. By Allah, I only recognized her when she stood before me and I saw her.”
