أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ قَحْطَبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ وَهُوَ غُنْدَرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُطَرِّفًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ {أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ} قَالَ «يَقُولُ ابْنُ آدَمَ مَا لِي مَا لِي وَإِنَّمَا لَكَ مِنْ مَالِكَ مَا أَكَلْتَ فَأَفْنَيْتَ أَوْ لَبِسْتَ فَأَبْلَيْتَ أَوْ تَصَدَّقْتَ فَأَمْضَيْتَ»

✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was reciting {Competition for more distracts you}. He said, 'The son of Adam says, "My wealth, my wealth." But you have from your wealth only what you eat and consume, or wear and wear out, or give in charity and send ahead.'
