✧ When the people were driven away from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud, I was the first to come to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: I began looking at a man in front of him fighting on his behalf and protecting him. I said: Be Talha, may my father and mother be your ransom — twice. Then I looked at a man behind me like a bird, and it was not long before he caught up with me, and it was Abu Ubayda b. al-Jarrah. We pushed on to the Prophet ﷺ, and there was Talha fallen before him. He ﷺ said, “Your brother is yours, for he has made [Paradise] incumbent.” He said: He had been struck in his forehead and his cheek, so I leaned toward the arrow in his forehead to pull it out, but Abu Ubayda said to me, “I adjure you by Allah, O Abu Bakr, to leave me.” He said: So I left him. Abu Ubayda took the arrow with his mouth and began wiggling it, disliking to hurt the Prophet ﷺ, then he extracted it with his mouth. Then I leaned toward the arrow in his cheek to pull it out, but Abu Ubayda said, “I adjure you by Allah, O Abu Bakr, to leave me.” So he took the arrow with his mouth and began wiggling it, disliking to hurt the Prophet ﷺ, then he extracted it. Talha was more severely wounded than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was more [severely wounded] than him. Talha had received thirty-some wounds, between stabs, strikes, and arrow shots.
