أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُنَيْنٍ يَزِيدَ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

«لَأَدْفَعَنَّ الرَّايَةَ الْيَوْمَ إِلَى رَجُلٍ يُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ» فَتَطَاوَلَ الْقَوْمُ فَقَالَ «أَيْنَ عَلِيٌّ»؟ فَقَالُوا يَشْتَكِي عَيْنَهُ فَدَعَاهُ فَبَزَقَ فِي كَفَّيْهِ وَمَسَحَ بِهِمَا عَيْنَ عَلِيٍّ ثُمَّ دَفَعَ إِلَيْهِ الرَّايَةَ فَفَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ

✧ "I shall surely give the banner today to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger." The people stretched their necks. He said: "Where is 'Ali?" They said: "He is complaining of his eye." He called him, spat into his palms, wiped them on 'Ali's eyes, then handed the banner to him, and Allah granted victory through him."
