✧ I used to ask about the hadith of 'Adi b. Hatim while he was beside me, but I did not go to him to ask him. Then I went to him and asked him. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent when he was sent, and I disliked him more than I have ever disliked anything. I set out until I was in the farthest land toward Byzantium and said: 'If I go to this man, then if he is a liar, it will not remain hidden from me; and if he is truthful, I will follow him.' So I returned. When I arrived in Madinah, the people looked eagerly at me and said, 'Adi b. Hatim has come, Adi b. Hatim has come.' The Prophet ﷺ said to me, 'O Adi b. Hatim, submit and you will be safe.' I said, 'I have a religion.' He said, 'I know your religion better than you do'—two or three times—'Are you not the chief of your people?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Do you not take a quarter of the spoils?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'That is not lawful for you in your religion.' He said, 'I was humbled by that.' Then he said, 'O Adi b. Hatim, submit and you will be safe, for I think—or I see—or as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said—that what prevents you from submitting is the poverty you see around me. But soon a woman will travel from al-Hirah without any protection until she circumambulates the House, and the treasures of Kisra b. Hurmuz will surely be conquered for us, and wealth will overflow—or will overflow—so much so that a man will be concerned about who will accept his wealth as charity.'" 'Adi b. Hatim said, "I have seen a woman travel from al-Hirah without any protection until she circumambulated the House, and I was among the first cavalry that raided al-Mada'in, the treasures of Kisra b. Hurmuz. And I swear by Allah that the third will surely come to pass, for it is the saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to me."
