أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا كَهْمَسُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَيْسِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي السَّلِيلِ ضُرَيْبِ بْنِ نُقَيْرٍ الْقَيْسِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ
جَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَتْلُو هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ} قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يُرَدِّدُهَا عَلَيَّ حَتَّى نَعَسْتُ فَقَالَ «يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ لَوْ أَنَّ النَّاسَ كُلَّهُمْ أَخَذُوا بِهَا لَكَفَتْهُمْ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ إِذَا أُخْرِجْتَ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ»؟ قُلْتُ إِلَى السَّعَةِ وَالدَّعَةِ أَكُونُ حَمَامًا مِنْ حَمَامِ مَكَّةَ قَالَ «كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ إِذَا أُخْرِجْتَ مِنْ مَكَّةَ»؟ قُلْتُ إِلَى السَّعَةِ وَالدَّعَةِ إِلَى أَرْضِ الشَّامِ وَالْأَرْضِ الْمُقَدَّسَةِ قَالَ «فَكَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ إِذَا أُخْرِجْتَ مِنْهَا»؟ قُلْتُ إِذًا وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ آخُذُ سَيْفِي فَأَضَعُهُ عَلَى عَاتِقِي فَقَالَ ﷺ «أَوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ تَسْمَعُ وَتُطِيعُ لِعَبْدٍ حَبَشِيٍّ مُجَدَّعٍ»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ began to recite this verse: {And whoever fears God—He will make for him a way out and provide for him from where he does not expect.} He kept repeating it to me until I became drowsy. Then he said: 'O Abū Dharr, if all the people took hold of it, it would suffice them.' Then he said: 'O Abū Dharr, how will you act when you are expelled from Madinah?' I said: 'To spaciousness and ease; I will be one of the pigeons of Makkah.' He said: 'How will you act when you are expelled from Makkah?' I said: 'To spaciousness and ease, to the land of Syria and the Holy Land.' He said: 'Then how will you act when you are expelled from it?' I said: 'Then, by the One who sent you with the truth, I will take my sword and place it on my shoulder.' He ﷺ said: 'Or better than that: you hear and obey, even an Ethiopian slave with mutilated limbs.'
