✧ The leaders of Quraysh gathered in al-Hijr and swore by al-Lat, al-'Uzza, and Manat, the third, the other, and by Na'ilah and Isaf: 'If we were to see Muhammad, we would rise against him as one man and not leave him until we kill him.' Then his daughter Fatimah came weeping until she entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'These leaders of your people have sworn against you that if they see you, they will rise against you and kill you; there is not a man among them but knows his share of your blood.' He said: 'O my little daughter, bring me water for ablution.' So he performed ablution, then entered the mosque. When they saw him, they said: 'Here he is! Here he is!' Then they lowered their eyes and their chins fell upon their chests; they did not raise their eyes to him, and no man among them rose against him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came forward until he stood over their heads, took a handful of dust, and said: 'May the faces be ugly!' Then he threw it at them. No man among them was struck by any of those pebbles except that he was killed on the Day of Badr.
