أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ قَالَ
عَرَّسَ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَافْتَرَشَ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنَّا ذِرَاعَ رَاحِلَتِهِ فَانْتَبَهْتُ فِي بَعْضِ اللَّيْلِ فَإِذَا نَاقَةُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لَيْسَ قُدَّامَهَا أَحَدٌ فَانْطَلَقْتُ أَطْلُبُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَإِذَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ قَيْسٍ قَائِمَانِ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَيْنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَا مَا نَدْرِي غَيْرَ أَنَّا سَمِعْنَا صَوْتًا بِأَعْلَى الْوَادِي فَإِذَا مِثْلُ هَدِيرِ الرَّحَى فَلَمْ نَلْبَثْ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي اللَّيْلَةَ آتٍ مِنْ رَبِّي فَخَيَّرَنِي بَيْنَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ نِصْفُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ وَبَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ وَإِنِّي اخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ» فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَنْشُدُكَ اللَّهَ وَالصُّحْبَةَ لَمَا جَعَلْتَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِكَ قَالَ «فَإِنَّكُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِي» قَالَ فَأَقْبَلْنَا إِلَى النَّاسِ فَإِذَا هُمْ فَزِعُوا وَفَقَدُوا نَبِيَّهُمْ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنَّهُ أَتَانِيَ اللَّيْلَةَ آتٍ فَخَيَّرَنِي بَيْنَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ نِصْفُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ وَبَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ وَإِنِّي اخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ» فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَنْشُدُكَ اللَّهَ لَمَا جَعَلْتَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ «إِنِّي أُشْهِدُ مَنْ حَضَرَ أَنَّ شَفَاعَتِيَ لِمَنْ مَاتَ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا مِنْ أُمَّتِي»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ halted with us for a night's rest. Each man of us spread out the forearm of his riding camel [as a pillow]. I woke up during part of the night, and behold, the she-camel of the Prophet ﷺ had no one before it. So I set off seeking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and behold, Mu'adh b. Jabal and 'Abd Allah b. Qays were standing. He said: I said: Where is the Messenger of Allah? They said: We do not know, except that we heard a sound at the upper part of the valley, and it was like the rumbling of a mill. We waited but a little until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and said: "A messenger from my Lord came to me tonight and gave me the choice between half of my community entering Paradise and intercession, and I chose intercession." We said: O Messenger of Allah, we adjure you by Allah and by companionship to make us among the people of your intercession. He said: "You are among the people of my intercession." He said: So we went to the people, and behold, they were alarmed and had missed their Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said: "A messenger came to me tonight and gave me the choice between half of my community entering Paradise and intercession, and I chose intercession." They said: O Messenger of Allah, we adjure you by Allah to make us among the people of your intercession. The Messenger of Allah said: "I call to witness those present that my intercession is for whoever of my community dies not associating anything with Allah."
