✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ five nights before he passed away, addressing the people, saying: “O people, indeed there have been among you brothers and friends, and I declare my innocence before Allah from taking any of you as a close friend (khalīl). If I were to take from my community a close friend, I would have taken Abu Bakr as a close friend. Indeed Allah has taken me as a close friend, just as He took Ibrahim as a close friend. Indeed those before you took the graves of their prophets and righteous ones as places of worship, so do not take graves as places of worship, for I forbid you from that.”
