✧ I went out to visit Yazid b. al-Aswad, and I met Wathilah b. al-Asqaʿ who also wanted to visit him. We entered upon him, and when he saw Wathilah, he stretched out his hand and gestured toward him. Wathilah came forward until he sat down. Yazid took Wathilah’s palms and placed them on his face. Wathilah said to him: “How do you think of Allah?” He said: “By Allah, my thought of Allah is good.” He said: “Then rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: I am as My servant thinks of Me, whether he thinks good or thinks evil.’”
