أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بِالْفُسْطَاطِ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْجَوْزَجَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا عَزْرَةُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُقَيْلٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَعْمَرَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ الدِّيلِيِّ قَالَ

قَالَ لِي عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ يَا أَبَا الْأَسْوَدِ أَرَأَيْتَ مَا يَعْمَلُ النَّاسُ الْيَوْمَ وَيَكْدَحُونَ فِيهِ أَشَيْءٌ قُضِيَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَضَى أَوْ فِيمَا يَسْتَقْبِلُونَ مِمَّا أَتَاهُمْ بِهِ نَبِيُّهُمْ ﷺ وَاتُّخِذَتْ بِهِ الْحُجَّةُ عَلَيْهِمْ؟ فَقُلْتُ بَلْ شَيْءٌ قُضِيَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَضَى عَلَيْهِمْ

✧ Imran b. Husayn said to me: 'O Abu al-Aswad, do you think that what people do today and strive in is something that was decreed for them and has passed, or is it in what they will face of what their Prophet ﷺ brought to them and by which the proof was established against them?' I said: 'Rather, it is something that was decreed for them and has passed upon them.'
