أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا صَالِحٍ يَقُولُ

«جَاءَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ إِلَى مَنْزِلِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ يَلْتَمِسُهُ فَلَمْ يَقْدِرْ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَوَجَدَهُ فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ كَلَّمَ فَاطِمَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ مَا أَرَى حَاجَتَكَ إِلَّا إِلَى الْمَرْأَةِ قَالَ أَجَلْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَدْخُلَ عَلَى الْمُغِيبَاتِ»

Translation

✧ ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ came to the house of ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib looking for him but could not find him. Then he returned and found him. When he entered, he spoke with Fāṭimah. ʿAlī said to him, 'I see your need is only with the woman.' He said, 'Yes, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to enter upon women whose husbands are absent.'
