✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us while we were in the ṣuffah after sunset and said: “O so-and-so, go with so-and-so; and O so-and-so, go with so-and-so,” until he had sent five, I being the fifth of them. Then he said: “Get up with me.” We did so and entered upon ʿĀʾishah—that was before the hijab was revealed. He said: “O ʿĀʾishah, feed us.” She brought some jashīshah. Then he said: “O ʿĀʾishah, feed us.” She brought some ḥays. Then he said: “O ʿĀʾishah, give us something to drink.” She brought a large cup and he drank. Then he said: “O ʿĀʾishah, give us something to drink.” She brought a smaller cup. Then he said: “If you wish, sleep with us; and if you wish, go to the mosque and sleep there.” He said: “So we slept in the mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us at the end of the night and found me sleeping on my belly. He kicked me with his foot and said: “What is it with you and this sleep? This is a sleep that Allah hates—or that Allah detests.”
