✧ We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ on a journey, and he stopped with us while we were about a thousand riders. He prayed two rak'ahs with us, then turned to us with his face and his eyes were flowing with tears. Umar stood up to him, may his father and mother be ransomed for him, and said, "What is wrong with you, O Messenger of God?" He ﷺ said, "I asked permission to seek forgiveness for my mother, but He did not permit me, so my eyes shed tears out of mercy for her from the Fire. I had forbidden you three things: visiting graves, so visit them, and let your visiting them increase you in good; I had forbidden you the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, so eat and keep what you wish; and I had forbidden you drinks in vessels, so drink in whatever vessel you wish, but do not drink any intoxicant."
