✧ I heard Umar on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: “To proceed, O people: the prohibition of wine was revealed, and it was from five things: grapes, dates, honey, wheat, and barley. And wine is what intoxicates the mind. Three things, O people, I wish the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not departed from us until he had left us a definitive instruction about them that we could follow: al-kalala, al-jadd, and some categories of riba.”
