أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْجُعْفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

أُنْزِلَتْ {عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى} فِي ابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ الْأَعْمَى قَالَتْ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ أَرْشِدْنِي قَالَتْ وَعِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ مِنْ عُظَمَاءِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُعْرِضُ عَنْهُ وَيُقْبِلُ عَلَى الْآخَرِ فقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «يَا فُلَانُ أَتَرَى بِمَا أَقُولُ بَأْسًا» فَيَقُولُ لَا فَنَزَلَتْ {عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى}

✧ 'He frowned and turned away' was revealed about Ibn Umm Maktum, the blind man. She said: He came to the Prophet ﷺ and began saying: O Prophet of Allah, guide me. She said: With the Prophet ﷺ was a man from the great ones of the polytheists, and the Prophet ﷺ began to turn away from him and face the other, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O so-and-so, do you see any harm in what I say?' He said: No. Then 'He frowned and turned away' was revealed.
