✧ Concerning me the prohibition of wine was revealed. I drank with a people before it was forbidden, and a man among them struck my nose with the jawbone of a camel. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him, and Allah revealed the prohibition of wine." He said, "And I obtained a sword on the day of Badr, so I asked the Prophet ﷺ about it, and it was revealed: {They ask you about the spoils of war. Say: The spoils of war belong to Allah and the Messenger.}"

machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of Muṣʿab b. Saʿd, from his father, who said: Umm Saʿd said: "Food and drink are forbidden to me until you disbelieve in Muḥammad," so Allah the Exalted revealed {وَإِن جَاهَدَاكَ} (the verse). He said: Simāk b. Ḥarb narrates it. Shuʿbah, al-Thawrī and Abū ʿAwānah narrated it from him, from Muṣʿab b. Saʿd, from Saʿd. Dāwūd b. Abī Hind transmitted it as a mursal report from him, saying: from Simāk b. Ḥarb, who said: Saʿd said, without mentioning Muṣʿab between them. And it is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) from Muṣʿab b. Saʿd with a connected chain (muttaṣil).
