✧ We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ toward Khaybar. A man from the people, 'Amir, said: 'If only you would entertain us with some of your songs.' So he began to chant for them, mentioning Allah and reciting poetry that I did not memorize. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Who is this driver?' They said: ''Amir b. al-Akwa'.' He said: 'May Allah have mercy on him.' A man from the people said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if only you would let us enjoy his company longer.' When they encountered the enemy, they fought them, and 'Amir was struck. When evening came, they lit a great fire. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'What is this fire? What is it being lit for?' They said: 'For the meat of domestic donkeys.' He said: 'Pour out what is in them and break the pots.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not pour out what is in them and wash them?' He said: 'Do that.'
