✧ We went out with Abū Bakr, ؓ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed him as our commander. We raided Fazārah. When we drew near the water, Abū Bakr commanded us, and we halted for rest. When we prayed the morning prayer, Abū Bakr commanded us to launch the raid. We killed at the water whom we killed. Salamah said: I looked at a group of people among whom were children and women, and I ran in their tracks. I feared they would reach the mountain before me, so I shot an arrow, and it fell between them and the mountain. They stopped, and I brought them, driving them to Abū Bakr, until I came to the water. Among them was a woman from Fazārah wearing a piece of tanned leather, and with her was a daughter of hers, one of the most beautiful of the Arabs. Abū Bakr gave me her daughter as booty. I did not remove any garment from her until I arrived in Madinah. Then I spent the night and did not remove any garment from her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me and said, “Give me the woman.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, she has pleased me, and I have not removed any garment from her.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was silent and left me. Then he met me the next day in the market and said, “O Salamah, give me the woman, may your father be for Allah.” He said: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I have not removed any garment from her. She is yours, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to the people of Makkah, who had Muslim captives in their hands, and he ransomed them with that woman, freeing them through her.
