أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ بَحْرَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْمُرَقَّعِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ الْكَاتِبِ قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ فَمَرَّ بِامْرَأَةٍ مَقْتُولَةٍ وَالنَّاسُ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ «مَا كَانَتْ هَذِهِ لِتُقَاتِلَ أَدْرِكْ خَالِدًا فَقُلْ لَهُ لَا تَقْتُلْ ذُرِّيَّةً وَلَا عَسِيفًا»

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition when he passed by a slain woman with people gathered around her. He said: 'This one was not one to fight. Catch up with Khalid and tell him: Do not kill children or laborers.'

Ṣayfī, from the grandmother of Rabāḥ b. al-Rabīʿ, the brother of Ḥanẓalah, from the Prophet ﷺ. This is how it is narrated by Mughīrah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Ziyād b. Saʿd and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī al-Zinād. My father said: and this is the correct one.
