أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحِزَامِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْمُرَقَّعِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ عَنْ جَدِّهِ رِيَاحِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ قَالَ
«كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ وَعَلَى مُقَدِّمَةِ النَّاسِ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ فَإِذَا امْرَأَةٌ مَقْتُولَةٌ عَلَى الطَّرِيقِ فَجَعَلُوا يَتَعَجَّبُونَ مِنْ خَلْقِهَا قَدْ أَصَابَتْهَا الْمُقَدِّمَةُ فَأَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَوَقَفَ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ » هَاهْ مَا كَانَتْ هَذِهِ تُقَاتِلُ « ثُمَّ قَالَ » أَدْرِكْ خَالِدًا فَلَا تَقْتُلُوا ذُرِّيَّةً وَلَا عَسِيفًا

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, and Khalid b. al-Walid was at the head of the people. Suddenly, there was a slain woman on the road. They began to marvel at her appearance; the vanguard had struck her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and stood over her and said: 'Ha! This one was not one to fight.' Then he said: 'Catch up with Khalid and tell him: Do not kill children or laborers.'
