أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ السَّبَّاكُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُحَادَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي فُرَاتٌ الْقَزَّازُ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ
«إِنَّ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كَانَتْ تَسُوسُهُمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ كُلَّمَا مَاتَ نَبِيٌّ قَامَ نَبِيٌّ وَأَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بَعْدِي نَبِيٌّ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مَا يَكُونُ بَعْدَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ « خُلَفَاءُ وَيَكْثُرُونَ» قَالَ فَكَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «أَدُّوا بَيْعَةَ الْأَوَّلِ فَالْأَوَّلِ وَأَدُّوا إِلَيْهِمْ مَا لَهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سَائِلُهُمْ عَنِ الَّذِي لَكُمْ»

✧ 'The Children of Israel were governed by prophets; whenever a prophet died, another prophet arose. And there is no prophet after me.' A man said: What will be after you, O Messenger of Allah? He said: 'Caliphs, and they will be many.' He said: So what do you command us, O Messenger of Allah? He said: 'Fulfill the pledge of the first, then the first, and give them their due, for Allah will ask them about what is due to you.'
