✧ "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr were lashed for alcohol with a whip and sandals. When Umar ibn al-Khattab became the caliph, people from the countryside and villages approached him. Umar consulted the people regarding the punishment for alcohol. Abdul Rahman ibn Awf said, 'O Amir al-Mu'minin (Commander of the Believers), whenever someone drinks it, they should be expelled. And whenever someone is expelled, they should be stoned. So we suggest that you make it the lightest of punishments.' The first person to be lashed for alcohol was Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, and there were eighty others after him."
