✧ The right of parents

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَزْمُ بْنُ أَبِي حَزْمٍ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ قَالَ

قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَتَانِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ فقَالَ أَتَدْرِي لِمَ أَتَيْتُكَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَصِلَ أَبَاهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ فَلْيَصِلْ إِخْوَانَ أَبِيهِ بَعْدَهُ» وَإِنَّهُ كَانَ بَيْنَ أَبِي عُمَرَ وَبَيْنَ أَبِيكَ إِخَاءٌ وَوُدٌّ فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَصِلَ ذَاكَ

Translation

✧ I came to Madinah, and Abdullah b. Umar came to me and said, “Do you know why I came to you?” I said, “No.” He said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Whoever wishes to maintain ties with his father in his grave, let him maintain ties with his father’s brothers after him.’ There was brotherhood and affection between my father Umar and your father, so I wished to maintain that.”
