✧ The right of parents

أَخْبَرَنَا الصُّوفِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
كَانَتْ تَحْتِي امْرَأَةٌ وَكُنْتُ أُحِبُّهَا وَكَانَ أَبِي يَكْرَهُهَا فَأَمَرَنِي بِطَلَاقِهَا فَأَبَيْتُ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ عُمَرُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ طَلِّقْهَا»

✧ I had a wife whom I loved, and my father disliked her and ordered me to divorce her, but I refused. Umar mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O Abdullah, divorce her.”
