✧ I fastened my clothes and went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him. He said: "How many times did he divorce you?" I said: Three. He said: "He spoke the truth. You have no maintenance. Observe your waiting period in the house of your cousin Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind; you can put down your garment in his presence. When your waiting period ends, inform me." She said: Suitors proposed to me, among them Mu'awiyah and Abu Jahm. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Mu'awiyah is light of means, and Abu Jahm has severity with women—or he beats women or something like this—but you should choose Usamah b. Zayd."
