✧ Abu Amr b. Hafs divorced her irrevocably while he was absent in Syria. He sent his agent to her with barley, and she was displeased with it. He said, "By God, you have no claim on us." She went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned that to him, and he said, "You are not entitled to maintenance from him." He ordered her to observe her waiting period in the house of Umm Sharik. Then he said, "That is a woman whom my Companions visit. Observe your waiting period with Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is a blind man. When you become lawful, notify me." She said: When I became lawful, I mentioned to him that Muawiya b. Abi Sufyan and Abu Jahm had proposed to me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for Abu Jahm, he does not put down his stick from his shoulder; and as for Muawiya, he is destitute, with no wealth. Marry Usama b. Zayd." She said: I disliked him. Then he said, "Marry Usama." So I married him, and God put good in him, and I was pleased with him.
