أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ الصَّعْبِ بْنِ جَثَّامَةَ اللَّيْثِيِّ

أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِمَارًا وَحْشِيًّا وَهُوَ بِالْأَبْوَاءِ أَوْ بِوَدَّانَ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا فِي وَجْهِي قَالَ «إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنَّا حُرُمٌ»

✧ He gifted a wild donkey to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at al-Abwāʾ or Waddān, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned it to him. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw what was in my face, he said: “We did not return it to you except that we are in a state of iḥrām.”
