Sahih Ibn Hibban 3811

Translation

✧ I entered upon Ibn 'Abbas and said, "O Ibn 'Abbas, your people claim that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did ramal and that it is a sunnah." He said, "They have spoken truth and they have lied. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did ramal, but it is not a sunnah." Then he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived while the polytheists were on Qu'ayqi'an, and they had been saying that the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were weak and exhausted. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded them to do ramal to show them that they had strength."
