✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was observing i'tikaf, so I came to visit him at night and talked with him. Then I got up to leave, and he got up with me to accompany me back. Her dwelling was in the house of Usama b. Zayd. Two men of the Ansar saw us; when they saw the Prophet ﷺ, they hastened away. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Take it easy. She is Safiyya bt. Huyayy." They said, "Glory be to Allah, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Satan runs through a person like blood, and I feared that he might cast something into your hearts," or he said, "evil."

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Maʿmar, Shuʿayb b. Abī Ḥamzah, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Isḥāq and al-Jarrāḥ b. Minhāl narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn, from Ṣafiyyah. Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn as a mursal report (mursal), and the connected (muttaṣil) version is more authentic (aṣaḥḥ).
