✧ Fasting of the Traveler

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ عَنْ أَبَى سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ

مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى نَهَرٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ وَهُوَ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ وَالنَّاسُ صِيَامٌ وَالْمُشَاةُ كَثِيرٌ فَقَالَ «اشْرَبُوا» فَجَعَلُوا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «اشْرَبُوا فَإِنِّي آمُرُكُمْ» فَجَعَلُوا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَحَوَّلَ وَرِكَهُ فَشَرِبَ وَشَرِبَ النَّاسُ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ passed by a river of water while he was on his mule and the people were fasting, and there were many pedestrians. He said, “Drink.” They began looking at him. He said, “Drink, for I am commanding you.” They began looking at him, so he turned his hip, drank, and the people drank.
