✧ A Lesson in the Martyr

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَهْبِ بْنِ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى عَلَى قَتْلَى أُحُدٍ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ وَقَعَدَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ فَرَطٌ وَإِنِّي عَلَيْكُمْ لِشَهِيدٌ وَإِنِّي وَاللَّهِ مَا أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُشْرِكُوا بَعْدِي وَلَكِنِّي قَدْ أُعْطِيتُ اللَّيْلَةَ مَفَاتِيحَ خَزَائِنِ الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاءِ وَأَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تَتَنَافَسُوا فِيهَا» ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ حَتَّى قَبَضَهُ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلَا

✧ The Prophet ﷺ prayed over the slain of Uhud, then departed and sat on the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: “O people, I am before you as a forerunner, and I am a witness over you. By Allah, I do not fear that you will associate partners with Allah after me, but I have been given tonight the keys of the treasures of the earth and the heaven, and I fear that you will compete with one another over them.” Then he entered his house and did not come out until Allah, Mighty and Exalted, took his soul.
