أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي وَهْبُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ الْأَزْرَقِ قَالَ
كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فَأُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةٍ يُبْكَى عَلَيْهَا فَعَابَ ذَلِكَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَانْتَهَرَهُنَّ فَقَالَ سَلَمَةُ بْنُ الْأَزْرَقِ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ مُرَّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِجِنَازَةٍ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ وَمَعَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَنِسَاءٌ يَبْكِينَ عَلَيْهَا فَزَجَرَهُنَّ وَانْتَهَرَهُنَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «دَعْهُنَّ يَا عُمَرُ فَإِنَّ الْعَيْنَ دَامِعَةٌ وَالنَّفْسَ مُصَابَةٌ وَالْعَهْدَ قَرِيبٌ»

✧ I was sitting with Ibn 'Umar when a funeral procession was brought, and women were weeping over it. Ibn 'Umar disapproved of that and rebuked them. Salamah b. al-Azraq said: 'I testify about Abu Hurayrah that I heard him say: A funeral procession passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I was with him, and 'Umar b. al-Khattab was with him, and women were weeping over it. He scolded them and rebuked them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Let them be, O 'Umar, for the eye sheds tears, the soul is afflicted, and the time of parting is near.'
