Sahih Ibn Hibban 3129

✧ A Chapter on the condition of the deceased in their grave

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِقَبْرَيْنِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ هَذَيْنِ يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي غَيْرِ كَبِيرٍ فِي النَّمِيمَةِ وَالْبَوْلِ» ثُمَّ دَعَا بِجَرِيدَةٍ فَكَسَرَهَا فَوَصَلَهَا عَلَيْهِمَا وَقَالَ «عَسَى أَنْ يُخَفَّفَ عَنْهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَيْبَسَا»

✧ The Prophet ﷺ passed by two graves and said: “These two are being tormented for something not major: tale-bearing and urine.” Then he called for a palm branch, split it, and placed it on them, and said: “Perhaps it will lighten their torment as long as they do not dry out.”
