✧ When one of you—or the person—is buried, two black, blue-eyed angels come to him. One is called Munkar and the other Nakir. They say to him: 'What did you say about this man Muhammad?' He will say what he used to say. If he was a believer, he says: 'He is the servant of Allah and His Messenger. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' They say: 'We knew that you would say that.' Then his grave is widened for him seventy cubits by seventy cubits, and it is illuminated for him. Then it is said to him: 'Sleep.' He sleeps like the sleep of a bride whom no one wakes except the dearest of her family, until Allah raises him from that resting place. If he was a hypocrite, he says: 'I do not know. I heard people saying something, and I said it.' They say: 'We knew that you would say that.' Then it is said to the earth: 'Close in on him,' and it closes in on him until his ribs interlace. He remains punished until Allah raises him from that resting place.
