✧ A chapter on standing up for the funeral

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مِقْسَمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذْ مَرَّتْ بِنَا جَنَازَةٌ فَقَامَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا ذَهَبْنَا لِنَحْمِلَ إِذَا هِيَ جَنَازَةُ يَهُودِيٍّ قَالَ «إِنَّ لِلْمَوْتِ فَزَعًا فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ جَنَازَةً فَقُومُوا»

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a funeral passed by us, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up for it. When we went to carry it, it turned out to be the funeral of a Jew. He said: «Death has terror, so when you see a funeral, stand up.»
