✧ Al-Ṭufayl b. ʿAmr al-Dawsī came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Makkah and said, “O Messenger of Allah, come to a fortress, number, and equipment.” Abū al-Zubayr said: A fortress on the mountaintop that could only be reached by something like a sandal strap. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “Do you have with you those behind you?” He said, “I do not know.” He turned away from him. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah, al-Ṭufayl b. ʿAmr came as an emigrant to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and with him was a man from his tribe. That man fell ill with a severe fever and became impatient. He took a blade and cut his fingertips, and they bled until he died. He was buried. Then he appeared in a dream to al-Ṭufayl b. ʿAmr in a good appearance, covering his hand. Al-Ṭufayl said to him, “So-and-so?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “How did you fare?” He said, “My Lord did good to me: He forgave me because of my emigration to His Prophet ﷺ.” He said, “What happened to your hands?” He said, “My Lord said to me, ‘We will never set right what you corrupted of yourself.’” Al-Ṭufayl related his vision to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands: “O Allah, forgive his hands. O Allah, forgive his hands. O Allah, forgive his hands.”
