✧ Lesson in Desiring Death

أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ لِضُرٍّ نَزَلَ بِهِ فَإِنْ كَانَ لَابُدَّ مُتَمَنِّيًا فَلْيَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي وَتَوَفَّنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي»

Translation

  3. ʿAbd al-Wārith b. Saʿīd
  4. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Ṣuhayb
  5. Anas b. Mālik

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should wish for death because of harm that befalls him. But if he must wish, let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and take me when death is better for me."
