machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd and Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no Muslim who is afflicted by illness, fatigue, worry, grief or harm, but Allah, Mighty and Majestic, expiates some of his sins by it." He said: It is narrated by Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ; Zuhayr b. Muḥammad, al-Walīd b. Kathīr and Usāmah b. Zayd narrated it from him, and there is disagreement about it from him. Ibn Wahb narrated it from Usāmah, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. Ḥalḥalah, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ. Abū Usāmah narrated it from Usāmah b. Zayd, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ, without mentioning Ibn Ḥalḥalah in the chain, and that is the correct version from Usāmah. Ibn Isḥāq also narrated it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Yazīd b. Zurayʿ narrated it from Ibn Isḥāq, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd and Abū Hurayrah. Ibn ʿUlayyah contradicted him and narrated it from Ibn Isḥāq as a statement stopping at the Companion (mawqūf), making it from Abū Saʿīd alone. Wahb b. Kaysān narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from the two of them, as mawqūf, and that is the correct version.

machine translationShaykh Abū l-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. ʿUmar was asked about the hadith of ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "No grief or fatigue afflicts a Muslim but some of his sins are expiated for him." He said: It is narrated by Muḥammad b. ʿAmr, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd. Al-Walīd b. Kathīr, Muḥammad b. Isḥāq and Usāmah b. Zayd narrated it from him, and there is disagreement about it from him. Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Wakīʿ, ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsā and others narrated it from Usāmah, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī. ʿAbdullāh b. Wahb narrated it from Usāmah and said: from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. Ḥalḥalah, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ; he added Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. Ḥalḥalah to the chain and was mistaken in that. The correct version is the statement of Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān and those who followed him. Likewise it was narrated by Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar, ʿAqīl b. Khālid, ʿĪsā b. ʿAbdillāh al-ʿAdawī and Layth b. Abī Sulaym, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd, and that is the correct one. In the hadith of al-Walīd b. Kathīr it is from Abū Hurayrah and Abū Saʿīd together.
