✧ Prayer for rain

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ عَنِ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

«كَانُوا إِذَا قَحَطُوا عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ اسْتَسْقَوْا بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَيَسْتَسْقِي لَهُمْ فَيُسْقَوْنَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي إِمَارَةِ عُمَرَ قَحَطُوا فَخَرَجَ عُمَرُ بِالْعَبَّاسِ يَسْتَسْقِي بِهِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا كُنَّا إِذَا قَحَطْنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ نَبِيِّكَ ﷺ وَاسْتَسْقُينَا بِهِ فَسَقَيْتَنَا وَأَنَا نَتَوَسَّلُ إِلَيْكَ الْيَوْمَ بِعَمِّ نَبِيِّكَ ﷺ فَاسْقِنَا قَالَ فَسُقُوا»

✧ “When drought occurred in the time of the Prophet ﷺ, they sought rain through the Prophet ﷺ, and he would pray for rain for them and they were given water. After the death of the Prophet ﷺ, during the rule of Umar, drought occurred. Umar came out with al-Abbas to seek rain through him and said: ‘O Allah, we used to seek rain through Your Prophet ﷺ when drought befell us, and You gave us water. Today we seek intercession through the uncle of Your Prophet ﷺ, so give us water.’” He said: “And they were given water.”
